All India Women’s conference Bhandup Branch

Foundation :
The Bhandup branch of AIWC was established in 1963 by founding members Vidyaben Lathi, Maniben Mota, Chandrikaben, and Anuben. Vidyaben Lathi was the founder president, Maniben Mota - Vice president. Chandrika Dave - Secretary, and Anuben - Treasurer.
Initial activities were confined to bhajans, ras-garbas , molakats, watching and enacting skits plays, demonstrations on various cooking variety, etc. The above members held office till early 90’s, with different positions among themselves.

Early 90’s to 2000 :
Smt. Chandrika Dave - daughter of Vidyaben lathi took over as president. The above activities of the branch continued smoothly.

Present :
Smt. Ratanben Mota is our President. Smt. Urvashi Shukla, our secretary since 1985, who infused a new lease of life, and a vision to the branch. She initiated a host of project on Disaster Management, Tree Plantation, education for adolescent girls, stage show, monologues, extempore, while continuing on the above projects.
Our major thrust since past 8 years is on education for adolescent girls on personal hygiene, imparting disaster management skills to school children, tree plantation, etc.
Above projects are undertaken in various municipal and private schools at Vikhroli-Parksite, involving agencies and professionals like BMC, Fire Brigade, Doctors Teachers, and members of AIWC Mumbai Branch.

Additionally, brought to the notice of authorities about the following :
Repair of damaged pavements, open gutters, blocked sewers, neglected buildings of municipal schools, etc.

The details on various projects are as follows :

Project Sukanya : Since past 8 years, we have been imparting education to 9th 10th std girls on personal hygiene, yoga, and concerned lectures are delivered by doctors and members of AIWC.

Disaster Management : Carried out with the help and co-operation of Mumbai Fire Brigade, covers a range of topics on fire-safety, gas-leakages, alarming situations, flood-management, Accident-safety measure, etc.

Clean Mumbai Green Mumbai : Since past 15 years, we have been planting saplings at various locations in and around Ghatkopar, Vikhroli and Bhandup. This project is carried out in close co-operation and help of garden department of BMC.

Future :
We intend to continue with our programmes, increase their coverage over more schools, increase the area under green cover, and expand our activities to higher level.
